I painted the autumn wind lifting and carrying away colorful leaves, bidding farewell to summer. Diagonal brushstrokes convey gusts of wind catching foliage and swirling it into an airy dance. Yellow, orange, red, green—all the colors of autumn spin in this waltz of farewell.
The work is executed in oil with impasto, relief brushstrokes. Each stroke is an individual leaf flying along its own trajectory, but together they create a unified movement. The light upper corner is the sky where leaves soar, dissolving into the heights. The dark lower left corner is the earth from which the flight begins.
The palette of warm and cool tones creates volume and airiness. Blue and purple shades are the shadows and coolness of an autumn day, while yellow and orange are the last warmth of departing summer.
